The Vision for Antigua and Barbuda

vision-for-antiguaIn 2011, four young people from Antigua and Barbuda, Denise Phillip, Dirk Agard, Raenor Sharpe, and Ronel Richards were awarded scholarships (jointly funded by The Government of Antigua and Barbuda and The Caribbean Council for the Blind) to attend the University of Guyana, to study Refraction Techniques.

While acknowledging that, in the beginning they did not know what was in store – one year later, they are now looking forward to their future, as level one Eye Care Practitioners, with intense anticipation and enthusiasm.

Trained as part of the  Vision 2020 (Right to Sight) Initiative to dramatically increase the number of eye care providers across the Caribbean and around the world, the four Refractionists, based in Antigua and Barbuda, are among an increasing number of eye care providers being provided with scholarships by CCB and its Partners.

Vision 2020 (The Right to Sight) is an Initiative involving several International Eye Care Agencies and led by the World Health Organisation and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness.

These young Refractionists shared their experience in this video.
